School trip to the Tairawhiti Enviro Centre

Last week me and my class went to the Tairawhiti Enviro Centre. We learnt about ways to help the environment and how to compost. We also learnt how they reuse food.

Compost

At the enviro centre we learnt how to compost. You need a layer of dirt at the bottom of the compost bin, then a layer of some type of green compost, then a layer of brown compost and then another layer of green. Repeat that pattern until the compost bin is full. Compost helps your garden bye giving it energy and nutrition for the plants to take out of the soil.
How to compost
you will need
  1. a compost bin
  2. old newspaper
  3. grass clippings
  4. dirt
  1. put the dit in the compost bin then add a layer of something green (grass) clippings
  2. then something brown
  3. repeat the process until compost bin is full.

Reusing food

At the enviro centre they reuse food that has been thrown out because it is past its best before date. they then give it to the people who need it the most. they have packaged buns that have been dropped on the floor, fruit that has bits of brown on the sides even eggs that supermarkets have to many of.

I found it really fun to learn at the tairawhiti enviro centre. I learnt loads you should come to.
